DIOCESE OF LUBBOCK STATEMENT OF MISSION AND VISION
We, the People of God in the Catholic Diocese of Lubbock, Texas profess our faith in God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit and seek to live our faith as a community of believers which form one part of the Body of Christ within the one, holy Catholic and apostolic Church under the leadership of the Bishop of Rome, the Vicar of Christ on earth.
As local Church we work on behalf of building the Kingdom of God which Jesus Christ came to proclaim and commissions us to continue in His Name. We do so understanding the universality of that Kingdom with an eye to its fulfillment in eternity. We do so with honesty, integrity, and transparency so that the truth of the Gospel may shine forth and that our witness to that Gospel may be a source of life for all whom we encounter. Our commission is fulfilled by God’s grace by which we pursue the path to genuine holiness. And we strive to live that holiness in such a way that all people may see in us the justice, love, and peace of Jesus Himself.
We strive always to be advocates for justice, especially for the oppressed, the disadvantaged, those hurting from the crosses they bear in life. Our call is to be genuine lovers. We long to be instruments of peace.
Following the selfless example of Jesus and the Saints, we make our own the prayer of St. Ignatius of Loyola:
“Take Lord, receive, all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, my entire will. You have given me all that I am and all that I possess. I return it to you now to be disposed of wholly according to your will. Give me only your love and your grace; with these I am rich enough and desire nothing more.”
